Role Title: Main Facilitator (Sessional)

Brief overview (please read below for full details)

  • Experienced community facilitator required for our upcoming TEK Eagles project

  • Must be able to oversee sessions in full, using initiative and management skills to deliver in a structured and engaging manner

  • Must be able to meet the cultural needs of an over 50s BME community


Alchemy Arts have been engaged to deliver a project that brings social media skills to the Over 50s. The project runs throughout 2019 across 3 community hubs - Manchester, Bury and Oldham, with each location delivering 12 sessions. You must have the ability to travel to all three locations and travel costs will be reimbursed.

The project is managed by a project manager, and each session will

• Be led by a Main Facilitator who will oversee activities and ensure that the activities run to plan (this role)

• A Community Engagement Facilitator who will provide support for the Main Facilitator in their role and provide hands-on assistance to participants in delivering the sessions themselves and admin such as completing evaluation and feedback forms.

We are recruiting for the right people to join us on a temporary and part time contract and for the full duration of the project.

Job Purpose

- To introduce the learning of each session and manage each session in its entirety, being responsible for delivering all materials from start to finish. You will also be responsible for all housekeeping and sharing session objectives

- To make sure all the sessions run to plan, working alongside community engagement facilitators to work with participants effectively. As a result build confidence in using smartphones, computers and tablets to navigate the internet, access media and social media

- To oversee the sessions and ensure that they are consistently being delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, enabling participants to become aware of various media/social media tools that are readily at their disposal on any smart devices they may own

- Facilitate these sessions at a pace adapted to each group

- You will also be required to support and encourage the participants to deliver feedback in the form of a questionnaire that is required by the project funder

- Overseeing sessions, supporting participants and facilitating the group when split into smaller more focussed groups. Lead on collection of evaluation

Job Duties

• Ensure that sessions run to plan and activities are properly completed

• Make sure all locations have suitable internet access

• To introduce the learning of each session and doing

• Providing proper support to the Community Facilitator working with them to build confidence around using smartphones and tablets

• Lead on collection of evaluation

• Deliver programme that meets the needs of the over 50 BME community

• Create informal learning environment that engages participants, including individuals who may have disabilities or complex educational needs, through conversation engaging activities

• Offer troubleshooting, support when IT equipment or networks malfunction

• Walk workshop participants through solutions to solve problems

• Supporting completion of the feedback questionnaires

Our expectations

- Arriving at least 30 mins early for each session

- Polite and professional conduct at all times

- Completing all relevant paperwork associated with the project after each session

- Taking responsibility for properly reading through and understanding delivery guidelines

- Proper reporting to Alchemy Arts regarding progress and evaluation post-project

Main Engagement Facilitator Skills and Qualifications

Experienced with working with the over 50’s - written and verbal communication, specialising in community engagement with older people

Good working knowledge of social media and smartphone technology

Ability to meet goals, patience. Fluent in community languages.

• Experience of working with the elderly BME community and volunteers

• Experience of working effectively on own and as a team


• Knowledge and understanding of the development needs of the over 50

• Principles of equal opportunities and a commitment to implementing them

• Plan, implement and evaluate projects, events and activities for participants

• Knowledge of the educational and training opportunities available to participants and volunteers.


• Up to date DBS certificate

• Encourage and motivate participants to form positive relationships

• Ability to use initiative in decision making and resolving problems

• Ability to develop rapport quickly with participants and build supportive and enabling relationships.

• Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
